Engaging and multifaceted, Dara M Wilson is a storyteller at her core. Whether the medium be solo performance, standup comedy, visual art, music or anything else, she knows how to weave a tale. She takes the toughest parts of life (racism, house fires, stalkers– she’s done it all) and unmasks them unflinchingly, making the complex obvious, legible, and even funny.
As a host, Dara has interviewed everyone from Brandy to the first elected Black Mayor of San Francisco, London Breed. Currently, she produces and co-hosts the comedy personal finance podcast Money Honeys with Yasmine Khan. She can also be found doing smart, frank comedy on stage: having written and produced several solo performances at SF Stage Werx; co-producing AMAZONIANS, a monthly woman and genderqueer stand-up show with Jackie Keliiaa; or performing at SF Sketchfest. Dara’s performances are meditations on the absurdities of life, why things are hard when they could be easy, and why Black people should definitely NOT participate in thrill seeking activities.
Dara is also a fiber artist who uses a unique and therapeutic method of collaborative generation to thoughtfully design beautiful and healing pieces for the home.
Dara has a commitment to social justice and activism that permeates her work, from the words she writes to the projects she leads. Most recently, she’s produced comedy shows in partnership with and benefiting BYP 100 and the SF Aids Foundation.
Whether in performance, visual art or otherwise, Dara M Wilson breathes stories to life with clarity and richness. She is currently up to her ears in wool in Los Angeles, California with her partner Dominique and their dog, Milo.
